About us

An independent Australian fishing resource

Local Knowledge Fishing & Camping publishes free species profiles, technique guides and location knowledge for Australian anglers. We are readers first and publishers second.

Why this site exists

Australian fishing information is scattered across forums, social media and out-of-date blog posts. Good local knowledge exists, but it is hard to find and rarely written down in one place with dates attached.

We started Local Knowledge Fishing in 2021 to fix that for ourselves, and it grew from there. Every species profile, guide and location page is written by someone who fishes that water, and every guide carries the date it was last reviewed.

How we work

Content is researched from first-hand experience, cross-checked against published fisheries information, and reviewed by a second contributor before publication. When regulations change, we update the affected pages rather than leaving stale advice online.

We do not accept payment for editorial placement. Advertising is clearly marked and kept separate from our recommendations, and affiliate links never determine what we recommend. You can read the detail in our editorial policy and affiliate disclosure.

Our position on the fishery

We advocate for careful handling, sensible bag limits and the release of large breeding fish. We publish well-known public locations only, and we do not share sensitive or private spots. Fishing responsibly is what keeps these places worth writing about.
