Recovery gear and tyre pressure beat horsepower
Most Australian beach and bush bogging is caused by tyre pressure, not vehicle capability. A compressor and an accurate gauge are the two highest-value purchases in this category: drop to soft-sand pressures on the beach, air back up before the bitumen. Almost everything else follows from getting that right.
Carry a rated recovery kit — snatch strap, rated recovery points, bow shackles or soft shackles, a long-handled shovel and traction boards. Unrated tow points are how recovery accidents happen. If you fish remote beaches alone, traction boards matter more than a snatch strap because there is nobody to snatch you.
Sand driving permits and vehicle access rules apply on most managed beaches in Queensland, NSW and WA. Check before you drive; fines are substantial and closures change seasonally for shorebird nesting.
