Overview
Sooty grunter hold in the fast, oxygenated water at the head of pools and behind boulders, striking anything that enters their patch of current.
They are aggressive out of proportion to their size and will chase a lure repeatedly after missed strikes.
Clear upland rivers and gorge country produce the best fishing, often within walking distance of a camp.
