Threadfin hunt turbid tidal water using sensory filaments extending from their pectoral fins, so lure vibration and profile matter far more than colour.
They stage off drain mouths and mud bank edges, waiting for prawns and small fish flushed out by the falling tide.
Their soft mouths mean a smooth drag and steady rod pressure land more fish than brute force.
Where to find them

- ▸Rod: 7' 4–8 kg spin rod.
- ▸Line: 20–30 lb braid with 30–40 lb leader.
- ▸Lures: 4–5" paddle-tails, 60–80 mm vibes, live prawns and mullet.
Tips from the water
- ▸Hop vibes hard off the bottom to create the vibration threadfin home in on.
- ▸Back the drag off — their soft mouths tear easily under heavy pressure.
